The Community Prison Links worker provides a link between community and prison based services. Through the development of treatment and rehabilitation care plans individuals are assisted to identify and address their individual needs, which includes working with services internal / external to prison.
The CPL worker supports people from the D.10, Palmerstown and Chapelizod area who are in prison and are preparing for their release so that they can make a fresh and productive start in their communities. Individuals who are due for release often need assistance with basic practical issues such as housing, social welfare and possibly drug treatment as well as longer term issues such as employment, education and training. We also support individuals that are recently sentenced to ensure they are fully aware of the supports that is available to them during their incarceration.
We support individuals attending the service to look after their own mental, emotional and physical health by offering Key working sessions, counselling and holistic therapies such as: acupuncture, shiatsu and reiki. In addition we facilitate group training sessions which include therapy, personal development and social groups.
On a practical level we help to identify appropriate training & education programmes which includes community employment placements. Staff will assist those who may need childcare placements to identify a suitable facility and to apply for funding re same. Through an integrated care plan we help identify issues such as treatment, housing, education & training or overcoming debt, among many other issues that may arise for individuals.
